Warsaw East European Conference – day 1

10.07.2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the auditorium of the Old Library of the University of Warsaw the 14th Warsaw East European Conference has started.

The opening ceremony of the conference was initiated by the speech of Jan Malicki (Centre for East European Studies director), John Micgiel (this year’s conference director )and Maciej Duszczyk (University of Warsaw vice-rector).

The opening ceremony was honoured the representatives of many embassies and major institutions. 

The opening lecture was delivered by Krzysztof Szczerski, Chief of the Cabinet of the President of Poland. Szczerski spoke about nowadays conflicts.

The keynote speaker, ambassador Matthew Bryza told about Donald Trump`s global politics. Bryza`s lecture title was „Shaking the foundations: the Trump administration and NATO`s East”.

After the opening ceremony, the participants of the conference took part in three panel sesions: EU policy toward the Black Sea Region”, „Security, borders and regional conflicts in East Central Europe” and „Hybrid Aggresion and Cyber Security”.

One of the most important event of the WEEC`s first day was Round Table titled co-organized with George C. Marshall Center. Participants of the Round Table: John S. Micgiel, Matthew Rhodes, Graeme P. Herd, Pal Dunay and Hubert Królikowski discussed about regional security in East Europe.

The Warsaw East European Conference first day ended with a special meeting: Marshall Center Poland Alumni Outreach Networking Event: Germany’s New Partners: Bilateral Security Relations of Europe’s Reluctant Leader.
