On January 9, 2020, the Centre for East European Studies hosted the presentation of the results of the sociological research entitled “Geopolitical orientation of Belarusians: Russian values or European prosperity?” by prof. Andrei Vardomatski. Prof. Vardomatski presented the quantitative and qualitative results of his research. Quantitative research (nationwide research, representative sample, 1,000 people) showed a 10% decrease in the number of declarations indicating pro-Russian orientation over the years 2018 and 2019. As noted by Professor Vardomacki, “such a decrease has been observed for the first time since the beginning of the research, i.e. 2004. Moreover, only 3-5% of respondents believe that Belarus should be part of the Russian Federation.
