St. Grigol Peradze Award granted

St. Grigol Peradze Award Chapter has nominated Lech Kończak, director of the Polish Institute in Tblisi as 2021 recepient of the the award. The award will be presented on December 6, 2021 at the Potocki Palace of the University of Warsaw during the 17th International Caucasus Conference. st. Grzegorz Peradze.

Since 2010, every two years the St. Grigol Peradze Award is presented to the people who in their scientific activity present the same values that St. Grigol Peradze. The prize distinguishes outstanding people, whose life’s achievements are a good example for others.

Saint Grigol Peradze (Georgian: გრიგოლ ფერაძე) (St. Priest Martyr Grigol), (September 13, 1899 – December 6, 1942) was a prominent Georgian ecclesiastic figure, philologist, theologian, historian, and Professor of Patristics in the interwar period. On December 6, 1942, Grigol Peradze was killed in the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz (Oświęcim) when he took the blame for the murder of a German officer to spare his fellow prisoners. Grigol Peradze was canonized by the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church in September 1995
