Congress of the Alumni and Lecturers of the East European Summer School – Odessa

On June 28-30 in Odessa, there was the X Congress of Alumni and Lecturers of the East European Summer School of the University of Warsaw.

The Club of Alumni and Lecturers of East European Summer School (EESS) was estabilished in 2000 during the 1st Congress. According to the tradition of the Club, the Congress is organized every two years by EESS graduates in their countries of origin. So far nine congresses have taken place: in Brno, in Warsaw (four), in Kaunas, Kiev, Yaremche and Prague.

The convention is always combined with an international conference. This time the conference was entitled „Social and Political Transformations in Eastern and Central Europe (1917-2017)”, organized by Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University. Prof. Olga Brusylovska from the Institute of Social Sciences, a graduate of the 11th Eastern Summer School was responsible for the congress.

According to the long tradition, the Conference and Congress began with Mass for the intention of a dozen dead professors, graduates and organizers of the EESS.

During his stay in Odessa, Jan Malicki, along with the members of the Board of the Alumni Club, and a participants of the Congressn lit a candle under the plaque in honor of President Kaczyński located on the street of his name and on the grave of Fr. Tadeusz Hoppe at the Polish Cemetery.

This year’s Congress was attended by about 100 people from different countries: Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Germany and USA.
