The book is Piekarski`s doctoral dissertation which defense took place in 2016 at the Institute of Scientific History of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The book tells about the history of musicology as an academic discipline. Special attention was given to the Department of Musicology at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv and to musicologists working during interwar period in Poland.
